Lately, I've been thinking that Nora needs a farm. I have fond memories of my old Fisher Price farm from the "good old days" (see, I've started already) that we spent spent hours playing with as kids. The new Little People Animal Sounds Farm, is just not as fabulous. So I have some options: eBay an old farm just like my own (not that expensive and they can go through a wipe down with bleach), buy the cute but not as accessorized wooden farm that Melissa and Doug make or find some other fabulous farm. Anyone got any suggestions?

So, did you decide on a farm? I was so inspired by your post that I went to ToysRUs today to look around...They only had one farm (the Little People) that had been opened and then reshelved. I don't know why, this was a total impulse purchase which I usually don't do, but I ended up walking out with the Little People Kingdom. I got home and put it together while Ellie was napping.
She woke up. Took one look at it....and then played with it BY HERSELF for AN HOUR AND A HALF, stopping only to eat some yogurt and some bread. I did interrupt her a couple of times to show her how to lower the drawbridge and how the king and queen could sit on the balcony and parapet. She was so thrilled with it and kept dragging the King and Queen and Peasant Girl and Woodsman to the "banquet" table and shoving their faces in it so they could "eat".
In retrospect, I think the farm would be much better (they did have a Noah's arc, which I found too disturbing, at some level), since so many of her storybooks are all about animals and the sounds they make.
And now, I've added a bit more plastic shit to my house that I think of later giving away, selling on ebay, or in a garage sale....
Maggie: My mom read your post about the farm. She cannot remember if we had the farm, but said I had the school and Edward had the airport. I seem to remember it all, but then I may just be inventing it. I think we had the best toys when we were little. I particularly loved the Sunshine Family. Does anyone remember them? I wonder if my mom still has them somewhere (you never know what sorts of things still exist around our house).
The jury is still out on the farm or other FP playworlds. I am still tempted - but I think we'll put it on hold for a while. We just bought Nora a potty and I fell for this ridiculous stuffed dog (http://www.babyoliverboutique.com/latitude-enfant-julien-dog-large.html) He is really cute, and Nora does love him. So we are on a toy hiatus for a while. Oh and we also got a potty.
The sunshine family is ringing a bell - they were like Barbie but more hippy? They had a treehouse? Must go research.....
Yes Sunshine Family were a little like Barbie, but they were a hippy family and their heads were smushable... not solid like Barbie's. One might say, they had less work done.
