New Nickel?

I think I remember hearing something about a new nickel a few years back in conjunction with the Lewis and Clark commemoration. But apparently, I wasn't really paying attention, because we've got lots of new nickels, which I discovered when I pulled one out of my pocket didn't recognize it as our nation's currency.

I don't think I like this 2006 Jefferson as much as the 2005 Jefferson.
What do you think, Dear Readers? Which Jefferson is your favorite?

I think the '06 is a little less forced. The '05 looks like Jefferson has reared back so you can admire him.

The complexity of Jefferson is missing. His head should be placed on top of the Sphinx's body. Not my original idea. A bio of him is titled the 'American Sphinx' which I think sounds right.

Though the 2006 is a younger Jeff and thus more likely to buy me a drink and dance on the tables in a French Bistro, I like the 2005 a bit better. Has that Rushmore feel. Plus, it looks like Liberty is coming directly out of his mouth... sort of like a comic word balloon. That works for me.

I think I have to agree with Jason in that the 2006 gives the impression that Jefferson was a bit more comfortable in that sitting. 2005 does look as though he wanted to be admired... or look tough. I tend to like my Presidents a little relaxed and "more likely to buy me a drink." Present one not included.

In the '06 version, what's up with the dark blackish background oozing out of his left ear? It reminds me of something gruesome from a bad episode of CSI, a pool of blood seeping out from a felled victim.

But, I've been outside the States for so long, I haven't seen any "live" versions of the new nickels. I do have to say that when I saw the first 'colorized' versions of the $10 bill, I thought for sure someone had spilled something on the money, because it just looked stained. American money is so dull, in comparison to the other countries' currencies.

@ Galaxiecarol:

The present one seems to have access to the best alcohol on the market though... And crack.
